For a lot of third culture kids, that question doesn't have a clean answer - it has a childhood's worth of context attached. TCKs share a non-verbal shorthand around this: they understand the dilemma, and the feeling of belonging everywhere and nowhere, without needing it explained.
Because it usually has more than one true answer - where they were born, where their parents are from, where they were raised, where they live now - and picking just one feels like leaving something out.
It's a common way TCKs describe never having one single place feel like the whole of "home" - a sense of comfort moving between cultures, alongside not feeling fully rooted in any one of them.
By treating it as several separate, structured facts instead of one line - where you grew up, where your parents are from, where you live now, and what you speak - so nobody has to compress it into a single sentence for a stranger.
